Overheard in Chicago

[Setting: Belmont Red Line Station]

Kid With Awful Emo Hair: "...yeah, but instead of adding water we added KY and it became this weird lubey cheesecake thing."

I don't know who that kid is, but I do know that I want to party with him.

Is it acceptable now to use 'party' as a verb?

I hope so, I love to party.

I'm baffled by the "cheesecake" part.

Baffled but intrigued.

this is probably kinda weird, but i am going up to chicago tomorrow and was wondering if you have any suggestions for places to visit. i think you are hilarious and therefore i'm willing to take recommendations from you.

Ha! It's not weird at all. I ask internet people for recommendations all the time. Ok, here's what you must do:

* Go to see That's Weird Grandma (Mondays at 8 at the Neofuturarium at Ashland and Foster). It's a play that's made from short stories written by elementary school students. It's amazing. If you're feeling extra theatre-y, also go to see Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind on Friday or Saturday at the same theatre and/or Messing With a Friend Thursdays at 8 at The Annoyance Theatre at the Lawrence red line stop. All of the shows are cheap and really really fun.

* Go to The Green Mill at the Lawrence red line stop. It stays open until 5AM and it's phenomenal for jazz. It's my favorite place in Chicago.

* Eat at Hot Doug's. It's an exotic sausage place and it's amazing. If you have time, go to Toast (Damen line) or Orange With a Peel (Belmont red line stop) for brunch. They're both delicious.

* Guthries is a really fun nerd bar that has board games. It's a lovely wind-down kind of place if you're just in the mood for a quiet drink. It's at the Addison red line stop.

* See the Bean in Millenium Park. I think it's awesome.

* Joe's Bar at Foster and Ravenswood has turtle racing every Friday which is great if you're into weird things.

That's what I've got off the top of my head. If you'd like anything else, seriously don't hesitate to e-mail me: Postgradnothing@gmail.com. I love talking about Chicago.
